The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) has issued 25 graduating students credentials on the blockchain.
The technology-based school joins approximately twelve other post secondary institutions in issuing secure credentials, which notably include MIT and Stanford. According to SAIT’s Director/Registrar, Neera Arora, fraudulent transcripts from post secondary schools are on the rise and blockchain credentials can help put a stop to the misleading activities.
Developed by the On-Demand Education Marketplace, which utilizes the Ethereum platform, students will now be able to access their personal credentials on a secure blockchain key. Increasing time and cost efficiencies, employers and institutions no longer need to reach out to schools for transcripts and students no longer have to wait and pay to obtain their records. Access will now be instantly available and with no fees.
The first 25 students to obtain blockchain credentials upon graduation were from the Automotive Service Tech program at SAIT.
