National Football League (NFL) team, Miami Dolphins, are teaming up with Litecoin Foundation to accept crypto as a method of payment. The franchise football team, through its partnership with Litecoin and Aliant Payments, will offer home game fans the ability to purchase 50/50 raffle tickets where half of the proceeds go towards the Miami Dolphins Foundation’s charitable causes. The tickets can be bought with both Litecoin and Bitcoin at 14 kiosk locations in Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.
Litecoin founder Charlie Lee said in a statement: “This collaboration propels Litecoin in front of an audience of millions of people around the world at a time where adoption of cryptocurrencies continues to gain momentum and the ecosystem is able to support real world cases in ways previously not possible. We see this as a powerful way to raise awareness and educate people about Litecoin and cryptocurrencies on a tremendous scale.”
“The Miami Dolphins are always looking for ways to enhance the fan experience, and this partnership with Litecoin provides the ability for guests to enjoy our 50/50 raffle while donating to a great cause,” said Kim Rometo, Miami Dolphins Vice President & Chief Information Officer.
While crypto will initially be a small fraction of the pro football team’s overall revenue, it marks Litecoin’s latest push to raise awareness about blockchain-based currencies. Last year, Litecoin Foundation sponsored an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight championship event and displayed Litecoin’s logo on the octagon’s canvas. Litecoin continues to gain popularity as a fast, secure and affordable method of peer-to-peer transactions.
