In a strong validation of the bitcoin network, Microsoft is launching a decentralized digital identity tool on the bitcoin blockchain.
Project Ion is an open source project that deals with the mechanics of how various networks communicate personal information. It focuses on decentralized identifiers, which controls how one proves they hold the key to the data.
Ion has been underway for more than a year and focuses on key signing and validation software which relies on public networks like bitcoin or ethereum but is able to handle higher traffic than the underlying blockchains themselves.
Microsoft plans to move Ion from the bitcoin testnet to the mainnet later this year.
